The Balltube Handrail System meets todays need for cost and time saving techniques in the installation of walkways, stairs and ladders.
The advantages of this modular system over other methods, are that it allows for speedy erection and finishing with a minimum of on-site welding. This results in considerable savings in time and labour costs.
The components delivered on-site consist of fully galvanised stanchions, rails, bends, kick-plates, slip-joints, closures, etc., ready for trouble-free erection.
On-site, the stanchions are loosely bolted in position, rails are then passed through the ball joints of each stanchion with any rail joins concealed within the ball.
Bends, closures, etc., are positioned and then all stanchions securely bolted down. Rails are then welded at each ball, and bends and corner joints fully welded and ground. Finally, all welds are primed with zinc-rich paint, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing structure, completely zincprotected against corrosion.
The Balltube Handrail System has been designed and manufactured to suit the requirements of Australian Standard AS 1657 1992.
STANDARD DUTY STANCHIONS
Standard duty stanchions are made from 40N.B. (48.3mm
O.D.) tubing with a 3.2mm wall thickness.
HEAVY DUTY STANCHIONS
Heavy duty stanchions are made from 40N.B. (48.3mm O.D.) tubing with a 4.0mm wall thickness.
RAILS
Standard drillings for Balltube stanchions are a top rail of 32N.B. (42.4mm
O.D.) and a mid rail of 25N.B. (33.7mm O.D.). Also available are drilling sizes for 40N.B. (48.3mm
O.D.) and 20N.B. (26.9mm O.D.) rails in either top rail or mid rail positions when required. Rails are supplied in medium gauge, with a maximum length of 6.5m.
KICKPLATE MOUNTING BRACKET
Manufactured from 40mm x 40mm x 5mm angle x 76mm long, with two holes 14mm diameter at 50mm
centres, to suit 100mm kickplate.

BASE
PLATES
All base plates (except BPAM type) made from 75mm x 146mm x
10mm with holes 18mm diameter on 102mm centres. BPAM base
plates made from 65mm 172mm x 10mm with holes 18mm diameter
on 126mm centres.
NOTE: SPECIAL BASE PLATES CAN BE MADE TO ORDER.
FINISH
Standard is hot dip galvanised to AS/NZS 4680:1999.
Untreated finish is available on request.
GENERAL
Australian standard AS1675 1992 recommends a maximum
pitching of 2 metres for stanchions. Handing of stanchions
is ascertained by standing on the stairway or platform
facing the inside of the stanchion. Those on your right hand
side are suffixed with an R, those on your left hand
side are suffixed with an L.
SPECIALS
Variations to standard stanchions and fittings can be
readily manufactured to suit your individual requirements. |
